CYGNUS Instruments has released its new Cygnus Underwater thickness gauge which it claims significantly reduces inspection time and costs.

According to Cygnus Instruments, the Cygnus Underwater thickness gauge is suited for divers carrying out maintenance inspections and corrosion checks. It uses the Multiple Echo technique which ignores surface coatings for more accurate measurements.

The Cygnus Underwater thickness gauge is IPX8 rated, and can continuously operate underwater at depths up to 300m. A new Deep Coat mode allows the thickness gauge to measure through thicker coatings up to 20mm thick.

Cygnus Instruments claims the Cygnus Underwater thickness gauge is easy to use, with calibration buttons, echo strength indication, automatic probe recognition and a large, bright LED display for use in poor visibility conditions.

The Cygnus Underwater thickness gauge can be upgraded with a topside display and any length of umbilical cable up to 1000m long, allowing verification of readings above water.

The standard kit includes two rechargeable NiMH battery packs, which give over 60 hours’ measuring time.

Cygnus Instruments’ equipment is distributed in Australia by Russell Fraser Sales.
