ENGINEERS Australia says there will be a hazardous areas standards update seminar in Melbourne on 23 July 2009.
The Hazardous Areas seminar will address the areas of potential explosion risk due to the possible presence of flammable gas or vapour.
Such hazards are commonly found in petroleum installations, chemical and minerals processing plants, paint and finishing processes, gas distribution, wastewater treatment plants and a variety of other manufacturing environments.
Australian and New Zealand standards committees have been active in the development of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards in the hazardous areas for over 15 years.
The IEC has been subject to developments which foreshadow the most significant changes in hazardous areas standards for over 50 years. These changes will begin to flow into Australia during 2009 with the Australian adoption of key IEC standards.
According to the organisers, the seminar is an essential update for anyone involved in hazardous areas, not just electrical personnel. The items covered are relevant to managers, mechanical and process engineers, regulators and others.
The seminar will cover strategic developments of the current hazardous areas standards, highlight the introduction of new standards and review of key technical matters.
