NSK’s Molded-Oil bearings keep sugar mill pumps up and running

NSK says its Molded-Oil bearings have been used in a large Queensland sugar mill to resolve problems in its slurry pumps.
According to NSK, the spherical roller bearings in the slurry pumps were exposed to water containing caustics and other chemicals, and the lower bearing was often totally submerged.
The ingress of water and chemical inclusions into the spherical roller bearings caused contaminated lubrication. As a result, the mill had an average life span of just two months, and three changes per pump were required every season.
NSK says it implemented its Molded-Oil bearings which have now completed a full season at the mill without failure and will remain in service for at least another year.
NSK claims the bearings have saved the mill over $25,000 per year in maintenance and materials costs. The sugar mill is now intending to install NSK’s Molded-Oil bearings in all vertical shaft applications.
The Molded-Oil bearings contain an integral solid lubricant consisting of lubricating oil and polyolefin resin. NSK says the bearings are designed to last 8 years of continuous running under normal circumstances and are maintenance free.
