Replacement and repair equipment procured

According to the company, the independent investigation has been completed, the the damaged area and equipment is being remediated.AUSENCO has obtained all the replacement equipment for repairing the Lumwana copper facility, which was damaged by fire on 7 July 2008.

The fire damaged the main 20MVA transformer and an 11kV station next to it. No one was injured.

The damaged equipment had been part of the process plant facility being commissioned by Ausenco and Bateman Engineering for Equinox Minerals.

According to the company, the independent investigation has been completed, the the damaged area and equipment is being remediated. It thanked its staff, suppliers and clients for assisting it in procuring the replacement equipment as well as helping with the rescheduled planning and commissioning timetable.

It expects the project to be ready for hand over in late October 2008, based on the current time for the replacement transformer, cabling and switchboards. Meanwhile, other areas of the plant will continue being commissioned.
