Portable meter simulator tests load controllers
FMC Technologies has developed a portable meter simulator to test and demonstrate the functionality of load controllers and flow computers.
The simulator is said to be useful for companies in the petroleum and other production or manufacturing sectors. These industries require the large amounts of data for efficiency adjustment purposes.
Data like volume, temperature, pressure and flow have traditionally been collected via mechanical metering and counter systems. The measurement systems themselves can be large and require operators to calculate data manually and adjust processes accordingly.
The portable meter simulator mimics an actual meter and sends signals for the Load Controller and Flow Computer to process. It can simulate most information collected during the process.
The unit is based on the
Rabbit RCM4000, which uses low amounts of power. This allows it to sustain continuous operation for approximately six hours on two Nickel Metal Hydride cells. It can also be powered from an external wall supply which also provides charging capacity.
Dominion has more information about the Rabbit technology used in the simulator. It also provides customised solutions based on the technology.
