Integrated circuit breaker saves space

The SACE Emax DC circuit breaker has integrated monitoring, protection and control functionsABB has released a low-voltage air circuit breaker for critical DC applications that is said to integrate advanced functionality and external devices into a single unit.
The SACE Emax DC circuit breaker has integrated monitoring, protection and control functions. It contains the trip unit, current and voltage sensors and connections, measurement, communication, automation, diagnostic and human machine interface functions. These tasks were previously undertaken by separate external devices.
According to the company, conventional DC current breakers required separate devices like the trip unit and shunts to be installed in the switchboard.
The SACE Emax is said to be compact, and by eliminating external devices, saves space in the switchboard. The manufacturer claims it has been factory tested, certified and is compliant with all main electrical standards.
According to ABB, the unit is suitable for applications where continuity of power supply is critical. These include continuous process industries, telecommunications, electrical traction and drilling units, and the chemical industry.
