Case study: air filtration system halves energy costs

It replaced its existing twin tower dryers with a domnick hunter PNEUDRI unit fitted with a dewpoint dependent switching feature.ACCORDING to Parker domnick hunter, the use of its advanced compressed air filtration system can allow manufacturing and metal working industries to halve their energy costs.
UK-based Johnson Matthey, a manufacturer of autocatalysts for cars, trucks and motorcycles, wanted a system which could ensure its compressed air was clean and dry. The system also had to be monitored to track energy consumption.
It replaced its existing twin tower dryers with a domnick hunter PNEUDRI unit fitted with a dewpoint dependent switching feature. The system continuously tests and measures the outlet air quality and adjusts the duration of the drying and purging cycles to optimise the dewpoint.
According to the company, by reducing the number of cycles undertaken by the desiccant chamber to the minimum required, less energy is used.
The autocatalyst manufacturer says it chose the system because of the compact size, but it has since made energy savings of around 57%.
