Downer EDI to provide electrical engineering for BHP’s Newman project

DOWNER EDI will help BHP Billiton expand its Newman Whaleback Mining Operations with electrical installation work.

According to the maintenance services provider, this work is part of BHP’s Rapid Growth Project Stage 4, also known as the Newman Hub.

The $35m engineering contract means Downer EDI’s work on the entire Newman Rapid Growth Project has grown to around $200m.

The work will involve the electrical engineering and maintenance of a crushing and screening plant, stockyard facility, ore train loadout facility, and an ore-car dumper.
