HOD water treatment technologies are said to provide environmentally friendly water disinfection. According to the solution provider Eimco Water Technologies, the process leaves no by-products.
Cleanteq installed the Atlantium out-of-the-water UV disinfection system at the facility. The processed water is used for cooling purposes, in fruit processing machinery, for blanching food, and to clean equipment and food containers.
According to maintenance personnel at the processing plant, the system eliminates the use of chemicals, resulting in reduced chemical storage, less spills, and less chemical handling.
It features dual-controlled sensors to monitor system performance and adjust the light intensity according to application needs. The design is said to allow simple maintenance, with negligible reactor cleaning, near zero downtime, low energy consumption and easy installation and retrofit.
The previous system, which used chlorine dioxide, caused corrosion issues with cooking equipment. Operators at the facility say the upgrade is performing reliably and is simple to budget cleaning in place costs, locking in annual maintenance costs.
The technology uses ultraviolet light combined with a large quartz tube. The UV light is reflected internally throughout the system’s cross-section to disinfect the entire volume of water.
