Remote mount flow meter for hazardous areas
FLUID Components has released a remote mount flow meter suited for hazardous areas and HVAC systems in plants.
The ST50 has no moving parts and is said to feature an intelligent thermal mass flow sensor design. It measures air flow from 0.3 to 38 NMPS, nitrogen from 0.3 to 46 NMPS and compressed air from 1.2 to 122 NMPS. The thermal mass flow sensing element is constructed of stainless steel with Hastelloy-C tips.
Accuracy is within 1% of the reading, 0.5% of full scale, with a repeatability of 0.5% in the reading. It operates in temperatures between four to 38 degrees Celsius.
According to the company, remote mount flow meters are used in crowded or hazardous plant areas where explosive, flammable or toxic gases are in the vicinity of the transmitter’s electronics.
The transmitter has an integrated full digital display and can be mounted up to 15 metres away from the sensor and connected via two FNPT cables.
The ST50 comes with either an 18-36V DC or an 85-265V AC input power supply and is housed in an all-aluminium, epoxy-coated enclosure.
Its LCD screen is user-scalable to display flow rate units. Built-in wireless infrared communication technology is also available, allowing standard Palm OS personal digital assistants to obtain measurements, change settings and read trouble-shooting codes.
The infrared capability is said to be useful where flow meters are remote-mounted in hard-to-reach locations, or where opening the instrument is inconvenient.
The ST50 can be configured for flow range in standard mass flow or volumetric engineering units.
The unit is available in Australia through AMS Instrumentation.
