Plant maintenance slashes coal output
RIO Tinto subsidiary
Coal & Allied has reported a four percent output drop for the third quarter of 2008 due to scheduled plant maintenance.
The total production for the three months prior to the end of September 2008 was at 5954t. The 2007 corresponding quarter had seen a yield of 6186t.
The company said the annual coal preparation plant maintenance shutdown played a part in the dropping output.
The semi-soft coking coal produced by the company is used for steel-making, while the thermal coal output is fuel for power stations.
