Minerals facilities put into maintenance mode, workers lose jobs

CONSOLIDATED Minerals is slashing its staff numbers as it puts a number of facilities and mines into care and maintenance.
The Kambalda nickel operations will be on care and maintenance from mid-December 2008, leaving ten skeleton staff to take care of the site. 78 workers and 55 contractors will lose their jobs.
The Coobina chromite mine and lump ore processing plant in the Pilbara is also being put on care and maintenance. 23 staff will be retained to run the chromite fines processing plant, while 26 staff and 21 contractors will be laid off.
