Maintenance shutdowns for 80 plants
CHEMICAL company
BASF is putting 80 of its plants into shutdown, in a move expected to impact 20,000 workers worldwide.
The company has a plant in Melbourne and employs more than 300 people in Australia and New Zealand.
It claims the “massive” decline in demand means it must avoid the creation of overcapacities. Automotive customers are said to have cancelled big orders at short notice.
The plants which have been shut down would undertake maintenance work.
