Grants to improve manufacturing efficiency
THE Federal Government is providing $75m in grants in a bid to help small and medium-sized manufacturers improve the energy-efficiency of their operations.
In a competitive grants program called “Re-tooling for Climate Change”, Australian manufacturers will be able to apply for grants from $10,000 to $500,000 to improve their production processes, reduce their energy use, and cut carbon emissions.
The funds will be used to invest in energy-efficient manufacturing tools, improve insulation, and recover waste heat. Manufacturers can also invest in small-scale cogeneration plants that capture waste energy to produce on-site electricity, and cut water wastage by capturing stormwater and improving water recycling.
The government will also build a national network of Manufacturing Centres, allowing manufacturers to access advice on how to improve their energy and water efficiency.
