Bullet-proof shielding
DOTMAR has released a clear optical grade safety shielding with impact resistance 250 times that of glass of equivalent thickness.
Safeguard PC, a transparent polycarbonate, is being released as a high-performance and lighter alternative to metal shielding. It is made of the material used in bullet-resistant laminates in banks.
According to the company, it can be used as architectural glazing, acoustic enclosures, electrical instrument and switchboard enclosures, engineering machine surrounds, process machine guards and as protective panels in general manufacturing and industrial applications.
The polycarbonate is weighs a seventh of steel and is two times lighter than glass. It is said to be easy to handle and fabricate into custom shapes. It can be machined with standard metal and woodworking equipment with carbide tipped tools.
